Want to create something for your home that is elegant but at the same time useful? If so, then look at a brick patio. Brick patios are a wonderful place to gather with people to have a barbecue. At the same time, you improve your home’s worth. If you like this idea, just follow these simple home improvement steps.

- A fairly simple patio type to put in is the loose brick. To start, you will need to measure the space you want for your home patio. Get both the length and the width and multiply them together. You’ll need these measurements to determine what items and how much you need to get started.

- Next you need some gravel and pure sand so you can fill the area in. Using your length and width numbers will determine how much of them you will buy.

- Now it’s time to get some bricks. Bricks usually come in sizes of four inches wide by eight inches long. Use the measurements again to determine how many bricks you will need and purchase some extra, just in case. Some bricks are just defective while others may break.

- When you really start building your patio, use the extra bricks you bought to make an edge around it. This will help keep soil and plants off of it. Make sure the bricks are on some sort of raised surface like plastic and/or metal.

Measure your patio’s border about an inch on all sides. Place stakes as to mark the spot. Make sure to have some mason cord so it can run from corner to corner, marking each corner. Doing this gives you the patio’s middle.

Design your base by digging about seven inches into the dirt. Put some sort of landscape fabric down. When you don’t, it’s inevitable to find weeds growing through the brick cracks.

Next, you need about four inches of gravel poured onto the fabric, spanning the entire thing. Use a rake to distribute it evenly. Get the inch of sand placed down and pat it firmly down.

Next, it’s brick-laying time. Begin with a corner. Use a leveler and a rubber mallet to help you out. These tools ensure the bricks are down flat. Once all the bricks have been laid, use sand on top of it. Any cracks should be filled with sand.

Lastly, get a special sealant to spray on the top of bricks so the sand won’t come falling out. Need help locating the sealant? Just ask someone at the store. Now you just need to

With these nine easy steps, it might take you from two days to a week to finish the project. However, you and your family can enjoy it for a lifetime.
